Ingredients
2 750ml bottles of a dry or semidry red wine
1 750ml bottle of a dry or semidry white wine
¾ cups coconut sugar
2 large navel oranges, cut into quarters
1 lemon, cut into quarters
Spices
3 cinnamon sticks
½ teaspoon whole allspice seeds
½ teaspoon whole cloves
½ teaspoon cardamom pods
Instructions
Combine your red wine, white wine, sugar, orange, lemon together in a large aluminum pot
Next, put your cloves, allspice, and cardamom pods either in cheesecloth or a metal tea ball, then submerge it into the wine mixture
Bring your pot over a medium-low heat and cover for 15 minutes
After 15 minutes, scoop your orange and lemon pieces with a ladle. When you've gotten a piece, squeeze the citrus juices into the pot of gluhwein. Once you've squeezed the piece of fruit, re-add its rinds into the pot
Cover and let your gluhwein simmer for another 15 minutes over the same medium-low heat
After the next 15 minutes (so 30 minutes total), remove the cheesecloth spice bundle from your gluhwein, then reduce the heat of your stove to the lowest possible simmer
Keep your gluhwein simmering at this low heat until ready to serve, then enjoy!
